Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin urged the people to preserve the harmony and political stability that exists under the Barisan Nasional (BN) government for the sake of the country's economic progress.
"If these are absent, the country will not be stable, and if this happens, there will conflicts and bloodshed that will destabilise the economy," he said when addressing Leong Hup Group's Family Day gathering at the Pagoh Sports Complex here.
He said there was no reason why the BN government should be replaced as it was capable of administering and managing the country with the support of the various communities.
"We want the country to be a high-income nation in eight years; only the BN can ensure this," he stressed.
Earlier, Muyhiddin, who is also Umno deputy president, said cooperation between the government and local food supply companies had contributed positively to the country's economy.
He cited Leong Hup Group, the largest local chicken supplier, which had helped control poultry prices despite rising costs, as a very good example.
